Out of Office: October 2024

Hello! This puzzle was originally written as an out of office message while I was backpacking in the woods without internet access from July 2 - July 18, 2021. If you are seeing this puzzle after that time, it must mean I am out of office to 42-Across again! Well, well, well, if it isn't the Just Gridding! team back with another "Just the Grid"!  In case you need a refresher, this is an experiment that we run every so often in which we post a grid and crowdsource this clues. Unlike most themeless grids, which are often created with a particular voice and/or message in mind, the grids we use for these experiments are created especially for this purpose, so that we can solicit as many voices and fresh cluing angles as possible. Hi folks! We've got another just-the-grid ready for crowd-sourced clues, this time by Rachel (as should be clear from the entry at 31A). You can find the solution grid and survey to submit your clues below — feel free to submit multiple times. This puzzle is a sampler in the sense of an embroidery sampler and also in the sense of the ideal appetizer order for the indecisive. It's a set of smaller puzzles all crammed into one 15x15 grid, composed of four minis to whet your appetite before a more challenging meal in the middle.
